Second Shift
An online school for people who study after work
About the school
We build long courses for adults: they run for months and are designed around a few evenings a week rather than a weekend marathon. Lectures are recorded, live reviews happen on weekday evenings, and homework is read by a person. Not by a mentor assigned to you, though — the curator team for your direction answers, whoever on it is free.
What we teach
Design
Interfaces and brand identity. We work in Figma, hand in a layout every week, and by the end you have a portfolio you are willing to show.
Courses in this direction
- Interfaces from Scratch — 16 weeks, from scratch
- Identity and Brand Systems — 10 weeks, intermediate

Engineering
Front-end and Python. You write code from week one, and reviews go past whether it runs to why this particular approach will hurt in six months.
Courses in this direction
- Front-End Development — 24 weeks, from scratch
- Python for Everyday Automation — 12 weeks, intermediate

Languages
English for work: correspondence, calls, interviews. Groups are small, up to eight people, and you speak more than you listen.
Courses in this direction
- English for Work — 12 weeks, intermediate
- English for Interviews — 6 weeks, advanced

One cohort per course: the nearest one. Enrolment closes a few days before the start, because groups are put together in advance and a cohort that has already begun cannot be joined.
What we do not do
Written down in advance, so that it does not have to come out mid-conversation.
- There is no job guarantee, and no arrangements with employers.
- Nobody is assigned to you personally: work and questions are handled by the curator team for the direction.
- Access to the materials is not open-ended.
- We issue no state-recognised diploma, and no paperwork for a tax deduction.
- There is no Python-from-zero course: the automation course needs at least some contact with code first.
- We do not prepare anyone for IELTS or TOEFL.
- There is no subscription that unlocks everything: you always pay for one course and one cohort.
- We send no mailings about new cohorts: the schedule is always on the site, and the chat is there to ask.
Getting in touch
Questions about studying, payment and access are handled in the chat on this site: it is the single way in, and from there a request goes to the right team. The phone line works on weekdays, for when the chat is not an option.
Phone: +7 (495) 000-33-44
Ask in the chat
Tap the chat bubble in the corner: courses, cohorts, payment and access are all answered there. When a person is needed, the conversation goes to the right team.
